Our vacation to Mexico
October 2000
At 0700 hrs on October 1, 2000 we boarded an Air Transat charter flight along with 310 other people from Vancouver to our vacation
destination of Puerto Vallarta. As soon as we arrived at 1530, we knew we had made a good choice.
We needed a vacation. Julie's been working hard since
her new promotion and I had just gotten off a month on the ship. We could not have picked a better place - or I should say, Julie couldn't have pick a better place. Puerto Vallarta is a very nice
little town, well at least the downtown core that we had the time to visit.
We stayed at an all inclusive resort outside of town in a place called Nuevo Vallarta, a sort of "tourist only" area of town. Although remove from the reality of Mexico, we experience an elevated state of "mind on vacation" which was just great.

The hotel was called Club Marival and it's been around forever. The grounds were immaculate and the service was excellent, obviously those skills had been honed
for a long time. Every necessities was though of. With Canadian owners, it was really nice to see a large facility catering to
Canadians. All announcements were made in French, English and Spanish.
We had a nice room overlooking the palm tree covered beach of the Pacific. Food was plentiful and varied. Pinas
Coladas and cerveza free flowed, whether you were on the beach, in the pool or at the many activities. We did quite a few of the planned activities. Horse back riding
and scuba diving at the Marietta Islands were some of the major ones. We also interacted with many people and sometimes we just lay around the room watching HBO movies drinking cervezas.
The staff were so energetic. They hosted all sorts of activities, water aerobics, basketball, socializing to name
a few. The bartenders were quite generous and speedy. The Mexican people were quite engaging and friendly.
Every night there was a themed show. One night, on Mexico National Day, the show showcased the various music and dance from all the province of Mexico.
Another night, it was a 50's rock show, where I was "volunteered" to be Buddy Holly's back
band member. Another night, Julie and I were in the dance contest. Every night we danced at the Caesars' disco, part of the hotel.
The pictures shows some of the environment, but it doesn't do justice to the general attitude of the place. What a really nice time we had, I hope we can go back sometime soon!
