The Leducs

History

We have some knowledge of our genealogy, but should you have some additional information, my father would be most appreciative. Drop him an email.

Somewhere down the line my maternal great grand parents immigrated to Quebec from Bretagne, in France. Bretagne is the region west of Paris, Brest is a city in that region. My paternal grand parents immigrated from the northern region of France, probably Rouen or La Havre. Both region are rich in Marine history, which explains a little of the fascination with the sea in our current family.

My parents, Claude and Louise, were married in the Basilica of Montreal in the Province of Quebec, on Saturday, the 15 of May 1963. They raised their family in the working class suburb of Ste Therese just north of Montreal. Before they met, my father attended the Royal Canadian Military College, in his home town of Sherbrooke, Quebec. My mother worked as an operator for Bell Canada. While at school, my father was college boxing champion within the military, (his picture is on the wall at the former military college Royal Roads in Victoria) as well he became a military pilot. Soon after, he completed his Civil Engineering degree at Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique..

In 1981 they made a decision to migrate from Quebec to the Province of British Columbia, where we have been since.

What Now

Currently our immediate family is well into the next generation. My sisters Catherine, Anne, and Isabelle have children, as do my brother Francois and I. I happen to be the proud Uncle of Alexis (Anne); Simon, Dominic, Gabriel, Emily (Catherine); Juliana (Francois); Pascal, Madeline, Gisele, Julien, Fleurette, and the most recent, Trifine  (Isabelle). My sister Genevieve is the Rev. Sister Genevieve of the Child Jesus, a cloistered Carmelite nun.

Where are they now

My parents are in good health and live in Nanaimo, near my sister Catherine and I. They help out tremendously with the grandkids and the many little chores around the house.

Catherine is a hard working Domestic Engineer, her husband is a Nursery Manager in Nanaimo where they live, they also run their own nursery - www.kleijnnurseries.com. Francois lives in Victoria with his spouse, they both work for the Provincial government. Genevieve is a Carmelite nun, and lives at the convent in Spokane, WA. Anne and Alexis also live in the US, near Seattle. Isabelle is a registered nurse, her husband has recently retired from the US military, they live just outside of Seattle, WA.

As for me, I am married to Julie. I work as merchant marine officer, a marine engineer to be exact. As of April 2007, Julie and I have one little boy, Oliver and another on the way, due in September. We have recently moved to Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island.

The Martineaus

History

The Martineau family has deep roots in the northern Quebec and Ontario landscape where they herald from. Theodore and Lucille Martineau owned a general store before picking up stakes and moving to Powell River in the early seventies.

The move took the ever growing family into uncharted territory. Theodore along with his eldest sons built their first house on the outskirts of town. Theodore began working for the new pulp mill, the largest in the world at the time. They soon built a bigger house to accommodate the growing family on a five acre wooded plot of land.

All eleven kids participate in this busy household's operations. The family has always been very self sufficient. Cutting their own lumber, growing their own food and always providing a rich mix of musical entertainment. Being such a large family, they were instrumental in the creation of the French cultural association in Powell River, one of the largest in BC.

What Now

The heads of the family continue to reside in their house in Powell River, surrounded and frequently visited by their offsprings. They tend to their massive gardens and fruit trees. Julie's brothers and sisters have their own families now, many of their kids being our age. Josee's wedding to David in 2002, indicates that the "third" generation is well under way. Regardless, we all gather back frequently to the family home in Powell River, filling it with laughter, singing, eating and cards.

Where are they now

Gerard and his family reside in Montreal, where he has recently retired from the military. Lise lives in Powell River where Onil works for the Post Office. Yvan and his spouse, Heather, live in Powell River as well. As do Paul, Jean Pierre (aka JP) and Michel, who was married in 2005 and had their first child shortly after.

Nicole lives with her youngest daughter, Tifany, in Victoria. Lucie and her husband Jacque have an acreage and a new house outside of Edmonton. Jacynth (aka Jes), her husband Doug, and Briana, live in Victoria where they are both accountants. Francoise and her husband Al make their home in Squamish, with their young daughter, near the Ski Resort of Whistler.

And of course, the baby of the family, Julie, and her husband - me, live in Nanaimo and have one child, Oliver and are expecting another shortly.
